Description | Correspondence, papers and published texts relating to criticism by Louis Allen of a booklet published by the Catholic Institute for International Relations (CIIR), entitled 'Comment 19: The Middle East'. Allen suspected that the Richmonds had been involved in writing the booklet (see EUL MS 115/8/7 and 115/10/11) and also wished to challenge some of its claims. The file contains two issues of New Blackfriars (January and February 1975), the first containing Allen's 'A Letter to the CIIR' and the second an anonymous 'Reply', as well as photocopy of Uri Davis' article 'The CIIR and Louis Allen' from the April 1975 issue of New Blackfriars and a proofcopy of Allen's reply. There are also various CIIR papers, including their 1975 Annual Report, letters from Diana Richmond to (and about) Louis Allen, a note from Herbert McCabe OP enclosing an uncorrected proof of Allen's article, two letters from Sir John Richmond to Herbert McCabe (19 May and 20 June 1975) accompanied by a draft article 'The Least Unjust Solution' that was written in response to the CIIR dispute, and an exchange of typed letters between Diana Richmond and Louis Allen, dated 22 and 23 Apil 1975 respectively. |
