DescriptionDark red folder containing the text of articles and talks by Sir John Richmond, as well as his research notes for these, typed drafts, presscuttings and correspondence. Some of the talks were later reworked for publication as articles. Titles include 'Palestine and the United Nations' (UN Association, Sunderland, 1977), 'The Middle East. The Idea of Nationalism' (Historical Association, 1980), 'Saudia Arabia' (For Commerce International, the magazine of the London Chamber of Commerce, 1974), 'Communism in the Middle East' (Foreign Office course, 1975), notes, typescripts and correspondence relating to Richmond's 'Prophet of Doom' essay on the career of his father Ernest Tatham Richmond, published in the 1977 Festschrift 'Arabic and Islamic garland: historical, educational and literary papers presented to Abdul-Latif Tibawi by colleagues, friends and students', including an original handwritten letter to ETR from former Chief Justice for Palestine, Sir Michael McDonnell, posted in 1954, 'A Critical Analysis of Israeli Policy since 1967' (CAABU, 1971), 'Iraq, 1831-1958', 'Who are the Arabs?' (Irish Arab Society, 1975, with a cutting showing a photo of Sir John Richmond), 'Arab Nationalism and the Rise of Palestinian Nationalism' (for an unnamed publication by Marshall Cavendish, 1975), 'King Hussein's March Initiative', 'Draft Revision of the Jordan section of the RIIA political and economic survey of the Middle East', a 1979 interview about Richmond's memories of the 1961 Iraqi-Kuwait crisis, a transcript of a Thames Televison report on Lebanon (1976), and a programme for a SOAS Conference on the Arabian Peninsula, 19-21 March 1969.
