Items include a photocopied article from 'Arabia' (April 1985) on Saddam's offer of amnesty to political opponents, several cuttings on the assassination of Mahdi al-Hakim, the killing of his family, and the execution of numerous senior politicians and army officials in Saddam's regime; there are rumours of an attempted coup against Saddam discussed in 'MidEast Markets' (20 February 1989), several reports of the use of poison against Kurdish and political opponents in Iraq and the UK, Issue No.9 of London-based weekly paper Al-Jadeed At-Tayar (27 March 1987) with details of the execution and torture of political opponents and Kurdish children, an information sheet on the publishers of Al-Jadeed At-Tayar, the New Umma Party (founded in London in 1982), an Observer report (10 May 1987) of a failed assassination attempt on Saddam, reports of several bomb explosions in Baghdad during 1985, attacks on government targets by the pro-Iranian group the Mujahedeen, a 1984 booklet by Dr Ahmad Al-Basri entitled 'N.U.I.S. Students Union or Intelligence Network' investigating the activities of the pro-Ba'athist National Union of Iraqi Students in the UK, including allegations of violence against opponents of Saddam's regime, and reports of failed assassinations attempt on Saddam (1981 and 1983).
