TitleBills relating to elections in Devon, 1835, and to a concert in Exeter, 1858
DescriptionThis small collection consists of four poster bills advertising forthcoming elections in Exeter and Devon Southern Division, 1835, and one playbill advertising Julien's Grand Musical Fete, Northernhay, Exeter, 29 June 1858.
Admin HistoryFollowing the passing of the 1832 Reform Act, the Municipal Corporations Act was passed in 1835, enabling corporations to be drastically modernised. 178 boroughs were granted permission to allow the boroughs' ratepayers to vote for Borough councils for the first time. Borough elections were held later that year. Parliamentary elections were also held in 1835.

Northernhay [Northernhay Gardens] is now one of the principal parks in Exeter, and has claims as one of the earliest public spaces in England. It was originally laid out in 1612 in the outer ditch of Exeter Castle. It was a pleasure ground throughout the nineteenth century and was used as a concert venue.
