TitleSir James Augustus Henry Murray
DescriptionALS & accompanying (stamped) envelope. A lengthy reply to Marshall's apparent query, as to whether the word 'diplomate' formed by the Examining Board of the General Medical Council of which Marshall was president, is parallel to 'licentiate'. Murray goes into the etymology of these & other words, such as 'aristocrat' & 'monarch', & ends by deploring the fact, in a postscript, that when people invent 'new' words, they rarely consult the specialist in the field - the etymologist!
