TitleJokes, verse and other fragments
DescriptionFile containing a collection of jokes, humourous presscuttings and other fragments, compiled over many years and including some original original verses presumably written by Bidwell. They include a verse tribute to Sultan Qaboos of Oman, by Aril Mirza, a poem on the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana by H. Rahman of Pakistan, a short typed note from R.B. Serjeant to Bidwell with a quoted typo for inclusion in the 'Joke Book' they seem to have been compiling at the Cambridge MEC that contained misspellings in newspaper articles, as well as various amusing or quaintly worded items, such as a letter from Abdul Razzaq Mustafvi of Karachi seeking financial donations for a marriage scheme, a bizarre anti-Catholic letter sent to 'Sir Thomas Robert Serjeant', a cutting showing Peter Boxhall in Yemen, presscuttings about Murdoch University in Australia, a typed Latin poem headed BAWAP Aden referring to university life in Oxbridge, two other typed humorous poems headed 'Top Secret and Highly Personal. Personality Pantomime - Amiri State' and 'Hadhrami Harold, the Scourge of the South - or a decade with Doreen', a typed verse headed 'To Al-Sayyid Mohammad Idris al Sanusi' with a pencil dedication to Capt. Alastair McIntosh in Benghazi (August 1944?) with the signature E.E. E-P at the bottom - presumably Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard, whose work 'The Sanusi of Cyrenaica' (1949) was written while stationed in Libya at this time - Minutes of the Quaiti Health Board (1960), various typed verse fragments in English and Latin, and a three page 'Hymn' with Arabic names in the margins.
