DescriptionFile of correspondence between Robin Bidwell and Sultan Ghalib II bin Awadh al-Qu'aiti al-Hadarmi (born 1948), the former sultan of the Qu'aiti State in South Yemen, who was deposed in 1967 when the Hadhramaut region of Southern Arabia was forcibly integrated with the new People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. There are several letters discussing family affairs and Middle Eastern events, some addressed to Ghalib's wife Sultanah Rashid Ahmed, as well as their shared interest in the history of the Hadhramaut. Bidwell planned to write a book on the subject, and the file includes discussion of publication with Lester Crook, the texts of two book chapters sent to Bidwell by al-Qu'aiti and translated from Arabic by Askar Al-Enazy, two presscuttingsĀ from a three part series Ghalib al-Qu'aiti wrote about his grandfather, Sultan Saleh (who died in 1956) for 'Arab News' in 1993, and two articles by Ghalib al-Qu'aiti on the Arab legacy in Hyderabad.
