DescriptionFolder of correspondence between Bidwell and others, between 1970 and 1979, including a letter from publisher Rex Collings enclosing his first royalty cheque for his 'Currency Conversion Tables' (February 1970) and another letter regarding a revised edition (April 1972). Correspondents include Kuwaiti Ambassador to the UK, Salem al-Sabah, Qatari minister Ali Al-Ansari, Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Kenneth Benton, Mrs Joanna Webb and Mrs Norah Smallwood (regarding a possible book based on the papers of Sir James Macleod), David M Hart, Sir Ronald Wingate, George Arthur Brassey Gottlieb, Colonel de Gaury, Dr Norsy Abdullah, Mr Miller (regarding Bidwell's views on an unpublished MS of 'The Golden Calf' by Norman F. Dacey), Nassir Seif El Bualy, Elaine Jacks (regarding the forthcoming Festival of Omani Culture in 1980). The letters are arranged chronologically and include some correspondence about Bidwell's research on the Arab Bureau (see EUL 377/2/1/1-2.) There is also a copy of a letter from Oliver Wright, private secretary at the Foreign Office, to Albert Hourani, dated 31 December 1970 regarding the closure of the Diplomatic Service Arabic language centre at Shemlan in the Lebanon, and asking if Hourani's proposed inter-university Arabic language centre could take over the task of teaching Arabic to British diplomats.
