| Description | Brothers and sisters of the Chapter were individuals who had been admitted to the Chapter with the permission of the Conventual Chapter. Brothers and sisters of the Chapter received all the spiritual benefits of being members of the community and were entitled to the suffrages which are noted in Syon Abbey's ritual.
The material comprises:
COM/8/1 - 1 volume labelled 'Codex Caritatis' listing brothers and sisters of the Chapter received by Lady Abbess Mary Magdalen Nevin, Lady Abbess Mary Peter and Mother Abbess Anna Maria Smyth between 1952 and 2010. Also includes several loose inserted papers, including pages listing brothers and sisters of the Chapter between 1948 and 1963.
COM/8/2 - 1 folder containing a small notebook entitled 'Brothers & Sisters of the Syon Chapter Addresses'; a list of Brothers and Sisters of the Chapter between 1914 and 1944, noting the date of entrance and some biographical details; and a certificate of admittance by the congregation (the name and date are left blank).
COM/8/3 - 1 folder containing papers relating to Dora Martyn, a close friend of the community and sister of the Chapter. |
