| Admin History | Born Rose Marie Theresa Hansom on 10 August 1916, to Theodore and Isabel Hansom, Rose Marie had two brother's; Charles and Michael Hansom. Rose Marie was descended from Edward Joseph Hansom who set up the firm Dunn and Hansom, and Joseph Aloysius Hansom, creator of the Hansom Cab. Rose Marie studied as a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music in the mid-1930s, but after meeting Ronald Duncan, moved with him to live in West Mill, Welcombe, Devon, in 1939, eventually marrying him in 1941. Rose Marie had two children with Ronald Duncan; Briony, in 1941, and Roger in 1943. Rose Marie was a talented artist and illustrator, who exhibited her portraits and paintings of the landscapes around Welcombe in Woodstock Gallery and Burton Art Gallery, among others. Many of her artworks were of well-known individuals, including Benjamin Britten, Ronald Duncan, Henry Williamson and Virginia Maskell. Rose Marie's illustrations featured in a number of Ronald Duncan's works, including The Ward (Rebel Press 1978), Mr and Mrs Mouse (Rebel Press 1977), The Tale of Tails (Rebel Press 1981). She also designed the settings for the 1958 English Stage Company/ Arts Theatre production of This Way to the Tomb.
