TitleEdward Cahen photographic collection
DescriptionTwo of the albums are collections of Cahen's portraits, one relating to literary and artistic individuals; the other medical men, especially the staff at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. The other three relate to Cahen's journeys to Poland, France and Germany before the First World War. The portrait albums mostly incorporate press cuttings relating to the subjects.
Admin HistoryEdward Cahen (1880-1961), photographer, was born in London, son of Albert Cahen, banker, and his wife Frederica. Educated at Marlborough. Studied Chemistry at the Royal College of Science from 1900, and joined the staff there 1907-1911. Travelled in Brittany, the Schwarzwald and Poland prior to becoming a demonstrator at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, in 1913. In 1917 he moved to the National Explosives Co. Ltd. in Cornwall. He retired in about 1923, and died in 1961 at Bovey Tracey, Devon.
