DescriptionFolders of writings and documents on the history of the Kurds, divided roughly into files on Kurdish affairs (General) and those relating to Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey, although with some overlapping material that relates to more than one region.

The 'General' file includes a tiny booklet on 'Kurdistan and the Kurdish People', a booklet published by the KDP, 'On the Kurdish question at the United Nations. Know the Kurds series no.2' (1974), a booklet in German issued by the Kurdistan-Komitee Marburg containing interviews on the Kurdish question (21 March 1981), photocopies of articles on the Kurds and Kurdistan from international newspapers, an undated list of 100 names of Kurdish activists, with date and place of birth, education, and political orientation, an undated and incomplete essay in Kurdish on Kurdish history, a handwritten list of Kurdish political parties in Kurmanji Kurdish, a Communiqué by the Preparatory Committee for Kurdish and Kurdistani parties (1980), a set of resolution (in Arabic and Sorani Kurdish) passed by a meeting of five Kurdish parties from Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria (1982), an undated article in Arabic by Kamran Qaradaghi / Kamran Qeredahî on US responsibility for the Kurds, a faxed copy of an article in Swedish by Olof Tandberg on Kurdistan (1998), a draft article in Kurmanji Kurdish by by Mûrad Ciwan entitled 'Sîstema navnetewî ya nuh û pirsa kurdî' for a 1999 conference in Stavanger with handwritten corrections [by OS?], an undated 'Short history of the Kurds', in Swedish and Kurmanji Kurdish, translated mostly from 'People without a Country' by G. Chaliand, a Report of a visit to southern Kurdistan in 1993 by a representative of Americans for a Free Kurdistan, a press release in Sorani Kurdish by 12 Kurdish organisations about the partition of Kurdistan, with a memorandum for Jalal Talabani and Mustafa Barzani (1994), an essay by Martin van Bruinessen on 'Ehmedi Xani's Mem u Zin and its role in the emergence of Kurdish national awareness' translated into Sorani Kurdish by Hassan Ghazi (1995), a translation by Heseni Qazi of extracts from 'The Kurds: a concise handbook' by Mehrdad Izady (1993), a 23-page typed article by Ferdinand Hennerbichler on 'Historical evolution of the Kurdish people' (ca.1987) with short biography of the author, a 3-page essay in German essay by Fadil Rasoul on 'Die Kurden in Spannungsfeld des irakisch-iranischen Krieges' [The Kurds caught in the middle of the Iran-Iraq War], a photocopied chapter on 'Kurdish nationalism' from William O. Douglas, 'Strange lands and friendly people' (New York: Harper, 1951), an article in Sorani Kurdish by Muhammad `Abd Allah Amêdî, entitled 'Mîzgeha amêdî u çend serhati' and copied from Issue no. 26 of Ejîn (2002), a conference paper by Kendal Nezan on the Kurdish Question, given in Oslo in 1991 at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, a typed article 'The Arab world and the Kurds' by Michael Collins Dunn that was originally published in Charles G. MacDonald and Carole A. O'Leary (eds.), 'Kurdish identity: human rights and political status' (Gainesville: University of Flordia Press, 2007), a report by Jeffrey Goldberg 'After Iraq' (The Atlantic, 2008), various maps and some documents on the Yezidis: including a Map of Yazidi religion, photograph from 1945 of Kadi Mohamed with the Iranian Prime Minister, and business card of Muawia Ismail al-Yazidi. There are also several maps, including large poster-sized wall maps for educational purposes.

There is also a small file on Kurds in America, including 'An Orientation Brochure Prepared for Kurdish Refugees resettling in the United States under the Sponsorship of Lutheran Congregations in the U.S.A.' (1976), and various publications from the Kurdish National Congress of North America including an invitation to a Newroz celebration, several issues of their newsletters (1990-1993), A special Issue on US Policy towards the Kurds (1991), and copies of the Proceedings of the Third (1990) and Fifth (1992) Annual Conference of the Kurdish National Congress of North America.
