DescriptionComprising papers mainly relating to the touring art exhibition 'The Tree of Life: New Images of an Ancient Symbol', a collaboration between Common Ground and the Southbank Centre. The exhibition opened in March 1989 and toured until November 1990. It iincluded works in all media by 28 contemporary artists. This file includes:

- correspondence, including with the Southbank Centre snd exhibition venues;

- meeting minutes;

- papers relating to an invitation to arts to produce work for 'The Tree of Life' exhibition, including leaflets, press releases, lists of entries and shortlists;

- a document entitled 'Tree of Life Project Description';

- note concerning ideas for 'Tree of Life Educational Projects';

- a document entitled 'The Tree of Life Educational Opportunities';

- a copy of the 'The Tree of Life: New Images of an Ancient Symbol Information Pack';

- reflections on the exhibition by the artists, including a typescript transcript of an interview between the sculptor John Maine and Common Ground, an essay by Simon Read, and a completed questionnaire by Simon Lewty;

- papers relating to sponsorship and funding of the exhibition;

- promotional material, including leaflet, newsletters, exhibition catalogues and posters;

- press releases and press clippings;

- manuscript planning notes;

- and a draft newsletter 'Branchlines' containing information about the Trees, Woods and the Green Man project and details of craftspeople involved with trees projects.

Also includes papers relating to the 'Trees at the Tate' summer programme of events at the Tate Gallery in 1989, including correspondence, meeting minutes, press releases, and promotional material.
