Admin History | Francis Llewelyn Powys (1909-1998) was the second son of Theodore Francis Powys and Violet Powys, born on 21 March 1909 at East Chaldon, Dorset. Francis published two volumes of poetry under the name Laurence Powys (sometimes also spelled Lawrence Powys); At The Harlot's Burial (1930) and Ghost of Marseilles (1932). A later selection of his early poetry A Winding Sheet of Gold and Other Poems (1985) was produced by Kenneth Hopkins. Francis worked as a bookseller, setting up 'The Powys Bookshop', which many of the family donated books to. He later became the copyright holder for estates of John Cowper Powys and Theodore Francis Powys. |
