Description | Comprising material mainly relating to Emilie Harmsworth's qualification and work as a nurse during the First World War. This file includes: a small address book containing details about patients (sparsely annotated); two St John's Ambulance Brigade silk badges; correspondence; a 'Sick Room and Convalescent Cookery' certificate; a certificate of enrolment in a Voluntary Aid Detachment'; notes on first aid and medical procedures, including a small notebook; papers relating to examinations; and a certificate of the Red Cross Society, awarded for attending a course of lectures and demonstrations on Home Nursing. Also includes a small number of letters and school reports from her children, Eric and Daphne; a pamphlet entitled 'The "Daily Mail" and the Liberal Press. A Reply to "Scaremongers" and An Open Letter to Lord Northcliffe' (1913); a dinner menu; and letters to her husband, Cecil Harmsworth, including letters relating to the Bethlem Hospital. |
