Admin HistoryCecil Desmond Bernard Harmsworth was born on 19 August 1903 in London to Emilie Alberta Harmsworth née Maffett and Cecil Bishopp Harmsworth. He was known within his family as Desmond or by the nickname ‘Bud’. He was educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford University, where he gained an M.A. He married Dorothy Alexander Heinlein of Bridgeport, Ohio on 10 December 1926 in New York City. In 1928, they became parents to a daughter, Margaret. Desmond Harmsworth worked as an artist, poet and publisher in Europe and in America. Following the death of Cecil Bishopp Harmsworth in 1948, Desmond Harmsworth succeeded his father as the 2nd Baron Harmsworth of Egham on 13 August 1948. He moved back to the family home in Egham in 1950. Desmond Harmsworth died on 02 June 1990.
