TitleCorrespondence 1940
DescriptionCorrespondence with Agatha Christie, 1940, concerning publications, fees, trusteeship, American income tax, copyright, wills and the war.
Contains letters between Christie and Cork on the problem of the jacket of ' Sad Cypress'. Christie writes emphatically of her dislike of the design. In April, Christie describes her 'tinkering' with 'One, Two Buckle my Shoe' to include reference to the war. Submitting her new novel 'N or M' to Cork, in July, Christie refers to her position if the German's invade, her inclusion of a Polish refugee character and need for a convincing Polish name. Cork replies on the topic of invasion and suggestion of authentic Polish name.
Also contains letter mentioning soldiers at Greenway in September. Includes Christie letter to Cork, in November, considering whether she wants to write about Poirot again, and Torquay running out of typewriter ribbons.Further letters relate to the war, and Christie's lively response to a critical fan talks about Poirot.
Subjects include the dramatisation of 'Ten Little Niggers' [original UK title for 'And Then There Were None'], 'Peril at End House', spy story 'N or M', 'One, Two Buckle my Shoe', Miss Marple and Poirot amongst others.
