DescriptionThis section contains material that reflects Tom Cross' life as a painter and comprises of a large series of sketchbooks and notebooks covering his career from his time at Manchester College of Art in the 1950s to 2000. In addition are exhibition invitations and catalogues, which show Tom Cross exhibiting his work with other artists as well as at his own one man exhibitions, and the Colour exhibition planning file demonstrates how Tom Cross' exhibition preparation. He also undertook private commissions, such as the Eaton Square swimming pool project as seen here and the Sales series provides evidence of sales activity around Tom Cross' work.
Admin History'Colour', 1975, was a major touring exhibition curated by Southern Arts which brought together ten contemporary abstract artists: Tom Corss, Peter Kalkhof, John Hoyland, John Plumb, Basil Beattie, Michael Kidner, Gordon House, Paul Huxley, Terry Frost and Patrick heron. It was shown in Southampton, Winchester, Worthing, Portsmouth, Bracknell, Salisbury and Falmouth.
