| AdminHistory | Bill Douglas wrote personal journals about his experiences as a filmmaker from 1980-1985, while attempting to create his feature film 'Comrades'. After having his script commissioned in 1980, it was a further two years before any kind of interest or funding was obtained. Channel 4 joined the project in 1982, but was unable to find other financiers or producers for the film. Finally Ismail Merchant was acquired as producer for the film in 1984, however Douglas became increasingly disillusioned that his film would be made due to his doubts in Merchant's motivation. During this time he journaled his dealings with Merchant and Merchant's production team extensively. |
