| AdminHistory | Though produced by the BFI for a mere fifty thousand pounds, the Bill Douglas 'Trilogy' was and continues to be heralded as "not just a milestone, but as one of the heroic achievements of the British cinema" (Philip French, 'The Observer' 1978). Both individually and as a whole, the trilogy has been praised by critics around the world. Its bleak realism contributed a new cinematic texture to the British film industry and defined Douglas as one of Britain's pre-eminent auteurs. |
