| Description | Envelope containing 69 postcards of Algeria and Morocco. All but one is unused, and these may have been collected by Bidwell during his travels in North Africa. They are all commercial postcards - a mixture of colour and black and white - showing street scenes and views of Algiers and Fez, Meknes, Moulay-Idriss and Tetuan, Marrakesh and Casablanca, the Botanical Gardens in Algiers, traditional costumes and crafts such as basket-making, musicians, markets, festivities and rituals. The earliest postcards appear to date from the 1920s and 1930s, there are several from the 1950s, as well as more modern ones, including some that have commercial websites printed on the reverse and were presumably added after Bidwell's death. |
