| AdminHistory | Elisabeth Beresford [1926-2010] was a novelist and children's author, and creator of the popular Wombles stories. The daughter of writer J D Beresford, she trained as a shorthand typist, and joined the Women's Royal Naval Service towards the end of the Second World War. Beresford worked as a ghost writer, journalist and radio reporter as well as a children's author, and from the 1950s onwards published more than one hundred books. She published twenty four Wombles books between 1968 and 1976, and was made an MBE in 1998 for her services to children's literature. |
