Description1 letter from Enid Blyton to Henry Williamson, Dec 1928
AdminHistoryEnid Blyton (1897-1968), English children's writer, was born in East Dulwich, London and trained as a teacher on a Froebel-based teacher-training course at Ipswich High School in 1916. After completing her training she taught at a boys' prep school in Kent and then worked for four years as a governess in Surrey.
During this time she was also writing and in the early 1920s began to have work published. This included pieces in Teacher's World magazine, eventually leading to a regular column that she did until 1945. Her first novel was published in 1926, and she subsequently had over 700 books published during her lifetime. These included the Famous Five (series beginning in 1942), the Naughtiest Girl in the School - the first series of Blyton's school based books (1940) and Noddy books (1949).
