1 List of people enslaved on York estate from 01 January 1780 to 31 December 1787, compiled 08 June 1789. It summarises the total number of people enslaved on the estate as of 01 January for each year, as well as the number of births, number of deaths, and number of people ‘purchased’ each year. This is followed by the numbers of enslaved men, women, boys, and girls as of 31 December of each year.
2 List of people enslaved on York Estate, dated 01 January 1799. It details their name, age, ‘country’, ‘occupation’, and ‘condition’. Notes in the condition field include: ‘Elephantisis’, ‘liver complaint’, ‘asthmatical’, ‘consumptive’, ‘ruptured’, ‘bad ulcer’ and ‘eats dirt’. At the end of the list is a note of five people under the title: ‘Runaway for a number of years’.
3 List of people enslaved on York Estate, dated 01 January 1815. It details their name, age, and ‘condition’, and groups them by sub-headings detailing their 'occupations'. At the end is a summary of the number of people employed in each occupation, with an overall total of 411 people listed. |
