DescriptionA red file marked 1970-72 (actually 1970-77) and covering 1) Time as advisor to the Sec of State on the Persian Gulf 2) Directorships. The first section contains a file of typed papers and correspondence relating to Luce's appointment in 1970 as the Foreign Secretary's personal adviser on Persian Gulf Affairs, including discussion of his salary, contract and its extension, and later retirement, letters to and from Willie Morris about the success of his mission, typed notes for the Ditchley Conference (see EUL MS 146/1/5/5-6), and general correspondence on Middle East matters, including a detailed answer to a doctoral student on the historical background to constitutional development in Sudan during his time there. The second section contains correspondence and documentation about Luce's roles in various directorships and societies, such as the Anglo-Arab Association, Standard Chartered Bank, Inchcape and Co, Gray, Mackenzie & Co. Ltd, and the Eastern Bank, including letters from Sheikh Isa bin Sulman Al-Khalifah and various British diplomats.
