| Description | 'The Doctor and the Devils' was originally written by Dylan Thomas as a later unfilmed filmscript (1953), and adapted for music theatre by Causley. Performed as a world premiere by Contact Theatre (Manchester Young People's Theatre Ltd) at the University Theatre, Manchester, Mar 1980. The music was written by Stephen McNeff. It was also performed at the Banff Centre, Alberta, Canada in 1984.
Includes:
1. Four notebooks of manuscripts drafts and notes relating to Thomas' filmscript and Causley's adaption, with other verse drafts.
2. Six files of typescript and photocopy manuscript versions of play, along with photocopies of programme and reviews.
3. File of cuttings and photocopies of reviews, along with programmes, flyers, a poster and other publicity material (some duplicates).
4. Seven identical, unsigned, poetry cards entitled 'Verses for a First Night' (first lines: "These words, are to declare/ How glad I am that you are there/ E'en as The Doctor takes the air").
5. Music manuscript for 'The Doctor and the Devils', composed by Stephen McNeff, 1984
6. Two posters advertising the performance of 'The Doctor and the Devils' by the Contact Theatre Company, University Theatre, Devas Street, Manchester, 5-29 March, 1980, printed by Holbrook Printing Co Ltd
