| Description | 'The tinder box' was adapted for theatre by Causley and was based on the classic story by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. It first appears to have been performed on tour by the Kneehigh Theatre in 1990, with music by Stephen McNeff.
It was subsequently performed by the Unicorn Theatre and The Arts' Centre, University of Warwick, at the Unicorn Theatre, Great Newport Street, London, in Feb 1992, as part of 'Hans Christian Anderstories' where Causley's adaptation of 'The emperor's new clothes' was also performed, alongside 'The ugly duckling', 'The little mermaid', 'The fabulous galoshes' and 'The steadfast tin soldier', adapted by other writers. The music was created by Alasdair Nicolson.
The play does not appear to have been formally published.
