AdminHistoryFor the score of the film, Bill Douglas turned to world-famous composer Hans Werner Henze. He wrote to the composer in July 1984, asking him if he would like to be involved in 'Comrades'. Henze's involvement in the film was one of the points of contention between Merchant and Douglas during their attempted partnership, however Simon Relph found no issues with the choice of composer and the soundtrack of 'Comrades' was created.
