AdminHistoryBill Douglas had worked with editor Mick Audsley previously on 'My Way Home' and Douglas invited him back to work with him on 'Comrades'. This worked well until the final cut of the film, at 205 minutes, was deemed too long by Channel 4. Audsley was already contracted to the Stephen Frears film 'Prick Up Your Ears', so Mike Ellis was brought in to finish the film. Ellis' cut, at 175 minutes, was screened at the London Film Festival in November 1986, however Douglas was not happy with the removed material, so Audsley was recalled to create the final cut as we now know it, at 183 minutes. Peter Jewell assisted the editors with cutting the film, rather than Douglas himself..
