AdminHistoryBill Douglas was commissioned by Mamoun Hassan to write an adaptation of James Hogg's classic novel in the early 1980s. He undertook the project while waiting for his film 'Comrades' to get off the ground. By 1988, with 'Comrades' completed, Douglas had finished his screenplay and planned to make 'Confessions' his next film with Hassan producing. Douglas approached Judy Steel, James Hogg scholar and wife of MP David Steel, to help with background and continuity research for the film. Unfortunately, though Hassan and Andrew Noble had begun finding supporters for the film, Douglas passed away before the film could be realised.
