| Description | Sets of contact sheets for individual plays, originally stored by the publicity office. This series primarily consists of sets of contact sheets, but frequently includes prints of photos from the contact sheets and other photographs taken for publicity purposes. Primarily black and white but with a few colour prints. A large proportion of the prints are annotated on the back with information on the play, actors and characters. The original bundles were stored in folded brown envelopes labelled contact sheets with the play name and date on the front. These were often in poor condition and have been replaced. There is evidence that the contact sheets were lent out to newspapers for publicity images and to other theatres for touring productions. Some of the bundles are missing some, or all, of the contact sheets and occasionally individual negatives have been cut out of sheets. In 1988 contact sheets sporadically began to be stored with the display prints [EUL MS 348/PROD/PHOT/2], rather than in this separate series and by 1989 the majority of contact sheets that have survived are stored here. Some contact sheets can also be found in Press Office Files [EUL MS 348/ADM/MP] |
