| AdminHistory | Fay Compton [1894-1978], born Virginia Lillian Emmeline Compton-Mackenzie, was an English actress and performer. Making some of her first appearances in the plays of J M Barrie, Compton took on a variety of roles on stage throughout her career. She performed as Ophelia alongside both John Barrymore and John Gielgud's Hamlets, and in Laurence Olivier's production of Uncle Vanya. She also made appearances on radio and screen, including in Orson Welle's 'Othello' and the BBC's 1967 adaptation of The Forsyte Saga. She was appointed CBE in 1975. |
