| Description | A packet of prints developed and processed by a photographic supplier, in their original wallet, marked 'Al Ghaydah and Dhofar, B&W' with a label dated '17 July 1973, Mr Halliday.' There are, however, some other photographs in the wallet that have come from another source.
There are 49 3" x 4.5" B&W prints taken in PFLOAG camps and on journeys around Dhofar, some of which show Fred Halliday in conversation with PFLOAG fighters; a 3" x 5" print shows a PFLOAG militant holding 'Samples of rockets used in the war of annihilation carried [out] by British imperialism' - according to the caption in blue ink on the reverse. There is also a single negative in a packet.
In addition to this set, there are two 3.5" x 5.5" prints showing students carrying out a demonstration of camel riding to show how the PFLOAG avoid enemy attack and climbing a flagpole to hang the PFLO flag; other photographs appear to show a press conference (marked January 1975 in pencil) and there is a photograph of an envelope addressed to 'Captain J Bradell-Smith' [Johnny Braddell-Smith, killed on Christmas morning of 1974], a photo of a demonstration in Oman against the Iranian occupation of Arabian islands ('received February 1973'), and a photo of a letter in Arabic sent to a Pakistani mercenary and found in Thaqbit. |
