| Description | Comprising two distinct collections:
The first collection comprises items relating to the University College of the South West of England between the 1940s and 1950s, which were likely collected and stored in the Robrough Basement by John Lloyd, the University Librarian at the time. The collection includes:
- One large plan (67cm x 100 cm) of the 'University College Exeter Plan of Stackroom' [presumably the Roborough Basement], c 1940s
- One clean copy of the pamphlet 'The Charter Year 1955-1956'
- Copies of the 'Exeter University College Club Bulletin', Issues No. 1-7 (December 1946-1948). Issue No. 2 includes an article by L.J. Lloyd entitled 'A Note on the College in Wartime'.
- Two issues of 'The South Westerner' (Vol. 10 (corrected to 14), 28 February 1944 and Vol 10 15 November 1944)
- Four bound copies of 'The South Westerner' (1938-1940, 1941-1942, 1942-1947, 1947-1948)
The second collection ( EUL UA/add. 72/HARTE) comprises 3 folders and 16 envelopes of professional and research papers of Professor Walter Harte, lecutrer in History and Literature (Royal Albert Memorial College) and History (University College of the South West of England). The papers date mainly date to the 1940s, but also include items dating to the 1910s, 1930s and 1950s. Many items are undated. This collection includes papers relating to research or lectures on different aspects of Exeter's history, including the history of the University College, as well as the history of modern India, the British Empire and the Commonwealth (one folder comprises papers relating to a lecture on the Commonwealth for international students). |
