[Note: John Cowper and Gertrude spent Sept - beginning of Nov, 1909 travelling together in Italy. They returned in November to find that Llewelyn had been taken seriously ill with tuberculosis - first blood Nov 3.]; One dated by E.E. Bissell as December, 1909. [John and Llewelyn set out for Switzerland in the first week in December.] Apparently written at Sherborne, just before they set out for the Clavadel Sanatorium, Clavadel, nr Davos, Switzerland
