<dc:title>Reminiscences book of 'Six Momentous Years' by Rowland Glave Saunders</dc:title>
<dc:description>This manuscript volume, which has 'Prescription Book' engraved on the spine, was written by Rowland Glave Saunders and mainly concerns his reminiscences of Exeter during during six his terms as Mayor of Exeter between 1938 and 1944, which he describes as 'six momentous years'. This is followed by an account of the second visit of the King and Queen and Princess Margaret to Exeter in 1950; an account of the 'Inner History of the Exeter Theatre (between 1938-44) by the Chairman [Glave Saunders]; and an assortment of newspaper clippings and letters dating between 1943 and 1952, relating to himself, the Theatre Royal in Exeter, and the impact of the Second World War on Exeter. At the front of the volume are two items that may have been inserted at a later date: a copy of Rowland Glave Saunders’ funeral service, dated 10 December 1952, and a pamphlet entitled 'University College of the South West of England, Exeter. The War and the College' by John Murray, dated November 1943. At the end of the volume is an inserted pamphlet printed by the Exeter Theatre Company, entitled 'Memorandum of Association and Regulations and Articles Also Special Resolutions...', dated September 1930. This pamphlet also contains an inserted letter, dated 24 July 1951, from Daw and Son Solicitors to Rowland Glave Saunders concerning his will and the gifts he wishes to bequeath to three institutions upon his death. Written on the back of this letter is a series of facts about animals.

The following index was transcribed from the front of the volume by work experience student Jack Whelan, and provides information about the subjects and events covered in the book's contents:
