TitleOutreach and Learning
DescriptionMaterial relating to the Northcott Theatre's outreach programmes, particularly relating to the Northcott Young People's Deparment, Northcott Young Company, Northcott Community Company and Friends of the Northcott Theatre. Also includes records relating to specific engagement initiatives, such as the 24hr Madshow and the Northcult arts displays in the theatre foyer. Two boxes of material which appear to have been collated for an exhibition provide particularly useful material on the theatre's history and a large number of early photographs of the interior of the theatre.
Admin HistoryThe Northcott Young People's Department formed from the opening of the theatre and had a strong Theatre in Education service which was disbanded under Geoffrey Reeves. The Northcott continued to deliver outreach and learning with the Northcott Young company and had links with many other schools and young people's groups. Cygnet Theatre, a drama school and working theatre set up by Monica Shallis (1939-2006); playwright, artist and composer & Mary G. Evans (1934-) in 1980, evolved out of a young performers group that was informally connected with the Northcott Theatre through the support of the then Artistic Director Richard Digby Day, and Mary and Monica's own work with the theatre. A few items in the archive suggest that this group was briefly branded as the Northcott Young Performers Cygnet.
