1 Document entitled 'A List of Slaves on Gale’s Valley Estate', dated 01 January 1820, consisting of four pages. It comprises a list of 230 enslaved men, women and children on York Estate; and a list of 32 [free] 'People of Colour on York Estate'. The document includes details of the name, age and 'occupation' of each person, as well as the enslaver’s assessment of their 'condition'.

2 Document entitled 'List of Apprentices on Gale’s Valley Estate January 1st 1838', consisting of four pages. It comprises a list of 185 apprentices [formerly enslaved people who, following the Slavery Abolition Act, had to continue working for their former enslavers under an imposed apprenticeship system without compensation for a set number of years]. The document includes details of their name, age, 'colour', country of origin and 'occupation', including notes of women who were pregnant at the time of recording. Also includes a list entitled 'Increase and Decrease of Apprentices in 1837', including details of deaths and a purchase of apprenticeship.
