Admin HistoryMichael Pickwoad was the production designer for 'Comrades'. His role was to assist Bill Douglas in physically creating the visual style the director had envisioned. Pickwoad designed and mapped the filming locations in Tyneham and Australia and was tasked with creating the replica pre-cinema devices and effects Douglas incorporated into his film -- notably the magic lantern and phantasmagoria slides, the heliotype and the Botany Bay panorama.
