Admin HistoryBill Douglas' film 'Comrades' was acquired by Channel 4 in 1982. After a false start with the producer Ismail Merchant in 1984, filming began with producer Simon Relph in the autumn of 1985. David Hannay joined the film as the Australian producer, and Douglas finally felt confident in his production team. While shooting in Australia however, there were several delays and 'Comrades' went drastically over-budget, causing difficulties for Douglas, his producers, and the film's guarantors.
