Poem called 'on Competence' written by Peter Jewell for Bill Douglas in their billet on RAF service in Egypt, with explanatory cover note by Jewell written in 2024. Further letters from the 1950s with transcriptions of poems by Hopkins, Thomas and others with annotations by Jewell. Letters from late 1971 from Peter Jewell to Bilkl Douglas, filming 'My Childhood' in Scotland and on behalf of Douglas by Jewell to Kodak and Grundig.
Postcards and letters from Jewell to Douglas in late 1972. These letters and cards offer support and advice to Douglas while he is filming 'My Ain Folk' in Scotland and also comment on the premiere of 'my Childhood' at the London Film Festival that year. There is also news on their friends and neighbours in London.
Jewell adresses Bill Douglas as 'Doug' in the letters, which is the nickname he was known by to Jewell and his family in Devon.
Admin HistoryPeter Jewell was Bill Douglas's best friend, flatmate and executor. When Bill Douglas was on trips away they would exchange postcards and letters.
