TitleJames Mackay papers: Mystic Fire Video
DescriptionThis file contains documents relating to the production company Mystic Fire Video. The direct-to-video company was founded by Sheldon Rochelin and Maxine Harris in 1985 and produces films confronting social, political and cultural issues which are not a major interest of other mainstream companies.

The documents include an information sheet of Mystic Fire Video and various photocopies of articles from magazines and newspapers which feature films the company has produced including the seminal experimental film by Maya Deren, 'Tantra of Gyuto (Sacred Ritual of Tibet)', Kenneth Anger's 'Magik Lantern Cycle', as well as other films such as 'Fried Shoes Cooked Diamonds' and 'Come Back, Africa'.

There is also a brochure advertising a box set of videos titled 'Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth', a series of interviews with Joseph Campbell, conducted by Bill Moyers which Mystic Fire Video helped to produce. There are also photocopies of magazine articles which discuss the interviews with Joseph Campbell and their transfer to video.

The rest of the file mostly relates to Derek Jarman's film 'The Last of England' (1987). There is correspondence between Basilisk and Mystic Fire Video about licensing rights and publicity of the film, although one letter also refers to the license of 'Caravaggio'. There are various photocopies of articles and reviews relating to 'The Last of England' and a copy of an advert for the film in Mystic Fire Video's catalogue which includes comments by J. Hoberman and David Ehrenstein.

Other items of interest include Derek Jarman's Filmography and correspondence from Jettisoundz Ambient Video which includes a list of their catalogue.
