DescriptionBlue ring binder containing detailed typed and handwritten essays and notes by John Richmond on the Tripartite Unity Talks between Egypt, Iraq and Syria that took place in Cairo in March - April 1963 following the Ba'ath coup in Iraq, concerning a possible federation or restoration of the United Arab Republic. Some of this material was written up for a talk at the Middle East Centre, St Antony's College, Oxford, on 18 February 1964. There is detailed analysis of the tensions between the Ba'ath and Nasserite factions and the omission of any record of the Iraqi-Egyptian discussions. At the back of the folder are annotated lists of the members of the Chatham House Discussion Group on 'Britain and the Persian Gulf' (Royal Institute of International Affairs at the time of their sessions in February 1964.
