TitleVictor J Leuliette papers relating to the teaching of English history and French literature
DescriptionThe collection includes four volumes of notes relating to the teaching of English history and French literature, two volumes of manuscript music (songs in French), and two bundles of notes relating to unpublished language manuals: 'Nouveau manuel d'Anglais a l'usage des Francais' and 'Manual of French for Commercial Students'. The notes for the latter include a copy of his pamphlet 'The spirit of history teaching'.
Admin HistoryVictor J Leuliette (d 1928) published his first translations in to English in 1903 ('The virgin birth of Christ' by Paul Lobstein; 'Liberal Christianity' by Jean Reville). He was a member of The School Peace League, and presented a paper on the work of the School Peace League to the Educational Conference of the Seventh National Peace Congress in 1911. In 1912 he published an English translation of 'Fenelon, his life and works' by Paul Janet, and his first own work, a pamphlet 'The spirit of history teaching: attitude of the teacher towards war'. He was an Assistant Lecturer in French at Kings College London from 1922 until his death in 1928.
