| Admin History | Ann Williams (1931- ), lecturer in Mediterranean Studies, was born on 22nd August, and was educated in London. She read for a Bachelor's degree in history at St. Anne's College, University of Oxford, where she went on to obtain a BLitt. In 1961, she took up the post of lecturer in history at the University of Aberdeen, where she remained until she came to the University of Exeter in 1988. The period at Aberdeen included two years spent in Malta, establishing the field of Mediterranean Studies. She remained at the University of Exeter until her retirement in 1996. She was Director of the Centre for Mediterranean Studies from 1991, which now forms a part of the Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies. She has also been heavily involved in the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (est. 1973) and the Society for Mediterranean Studies.
Her principal area of specialisation is the Knights of St. John in Malta. Her main publications are as follows: 'The Crusades' (1975), 'Britain and France in the Middle East and North Africa 1914-1967' (1968) and 'Prophecy and Millenarianism: Essays in honour of Marjorie Reeves' (1980). |
