TitlePapers relating to the Babylon International Festival
DescriptionFolder of presscuttings from the Baghdad Observer and international newspapers on the annual Babylon International Festival, which first took place in 1987. There are features on the Festivals for 1987, 1988 and 1989, detailing the wide international range of artists, musicians, dancers and actors taking part, as well as related discussion about Saddam Hussein's efforts to situate the Festival within a wider reconstruction of ancient Babylon. There are two B&W photographs and architectural plans for the restored amphitheatre of Alexander the Great, discussed in a 1987 article 'Iraqis restore Babylon to past splendour', with an accompanying handwritten letter from Abed-Noor Abboud dated 14 May 1987. Another letter from Abboud is dated 30 April 1987 and encloses six colour photographs taken inside an Iraqi factory with a reference to glass. Another B&W photograph shows a miniature replica of the Ishtar Gate and there are several articles on the restoration of Nebuchadnezzar's palace
