Topics covered include cinema visits (1, 8, 11, 25 September, 22 October), first copy of the new British newspaper printed in Arabic (7 September), sad news of accidental drowning of Biggar (21 September), burglary at James and Enid's house (21 October), news of the uprising in Hungary (28 October) and British and French bombing of Egyptian airfields (31 October), start of strike action and demonstrations organised by the HEC, followed by stoning of cars and burning of buildings (1-3 November), arrest of Committee members (5 -6 November). relationship between the unrest and British action in Egypt (12 November), more arrests, including Ibrahim Moayad the editor of a suppressed newspaper (16 November), fatal shooting of an Iraqi policeman at the fort by a Baluchi police officer, strangely mirroring the shooting 26 years earlier in which Daly was wounded (22, 25-6 November), sudden death of BAPCO's Edward Skinner - a friend of Belgrave's for 20 years - from a heart attack in New York (25 November), costing of Muharraq water scheme at £300,000 (19 December), court prosecution and conviction of five members of the HEC (22-3 December) and the usual end of year pantomime and party - Belgrave's last in Bahrain - at which he and his wife were carried shoulder high around the ball room.
