TitleCommunications regarding Dawsons Field hijackings
DescriptionFolder of copied messages and memos relating to the hijackings in September 1970, including memoranda by R. Hanbury-Tenison and T.T. Macan (14 September 1970) on 'Hijacking: the German position', a message from the UK Ambassador to Jordan, Mr John Phillips, to the Foreign Office (14 September 1970), a memorandum from a Mr Buchanan (Amman) to Turner, Chief of Security BOAC (14 September 1970) on the mode of bringing explosives on board the plane and detonating them, a Personal and Confidential note to the Foreign Office from the former Ambassador to Jordan (1966-70), Sir Philip Adams on the 'Situation in Jordan' (30 September 1970), followed by two letters from John Phillips addressed to Sir Philip Adams at the Foreign Office (10 and 13 October 1970) seeking clarification about comments that appeared to question his conduct. There are also 19-pages of telex messages between Amman and the Foreign Office. These are all copies of public documents from the National Archives, with the classification number PREM in the corner indicating they are from the Records of the Prime Minister's Office. There are also two faxed documents relating to later television documentaries to which Michael Adams contributed: a signed non-disclosure agreement with Takeaway Media regarding the BBC documentary programme 'Leviathan', broadcast on 1 January 2001 and looking at the events of 1970 through newly-released official records, and a five-page fax listing 31 questions about the Black September hijackings in preparation for a BBC/History Channel documentary (broadcast 12 November 2003) on 'Days That Shook the World: Black September Hijackings/Lockerbie.'
