DescriptionFolder of miscellaneous articles, including a CD of material on Whittall family history. [Contents include an account of the Cortazzi family, ancestors of the wife of the first Whittall who went to Smyrna, notes on John Whittall, who came to San Francisco in 1850 at the time of the Gold Rush, other items about Smyrna. Copies of original letters already held in Whittall papers: letters transcribed by Geoffrey and Notes on the Whittall family by James in 1879.

An article by Nedim Sönmez, 'Ege University Rectorate "the Big House,”', from a university publication (Izmir: Ege University, 2010), which includes several photographs of the building from the late 19th century through the decades to the present day, with some discussion of its origins as a Dutch monastery and subsequent adaptations, along with an updated Charton Whittall family tree; a letter from Walter Sturton to Yolande Whittall (1978) containing material about architect Frederick Ruddle (1798-1882) seeking information about his work in Constantinople; an extract from 'Spun Yarn' by Admiral Sir Henry Woods Pasha referring to Sultan Abdul Aziz to the Whittalls' home in 1863, presscuttings from 'The Levant Herald' on the death and funeral of Sir William Whittall in 1910, an extract from Stephen King Hall's 'News Letter' (1955) mentioning the Whittalls, an article in Turkish and English by Aytekin Hatipoglu, entitled 'Once Upon a Time' about the Anglican church and cemetery at Buca, from 'Cityscope' (January 1993), with anothe article on Buca from 'Turkish Probe' (1997), a photocopied newspaper article on the Whittalls' garden in Izmir (1991), a photocopied typescript in French on Charles Goshler (1819-1889); an undated carbon copy 3-page typescript entitled 'Charlotte Man entered Turkish Royal Harem - and lives to tell' which recounts the experiences of Will Finger, an American bachelor from Charlotte'; and a photocopy of a pamphlet 'A history of Christ Church Crimean Memorial Church Istanbul 1868-1968', [c 1968].
