DescriptionFile of papers and correspondence, contained inside a green folder marked 'Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. Office file', with the subject given as 'Izki', [ref. no. B425]. This contains fifty pages of English manuscript notes by Shebbeare for a public talk describing travels around Oman in 1971, which describe travels on foot and by car to places such as Khaborah, Suri, Mutrah and the mountains in the west, as well as the falaj system of irrigation and his encounters with various Omani people. There is also correspondence in English and Arabic, including a letter from Shebbeare to Mr William Peyton of Petroleum Development (Oman) Ltd, Muscat, dated 14 April 1970, and various other letters and papers (1966-70), relating to a dispute over the Falaj al Taibi irrigation chanel at Izki and the claim of Seif bin Hamood al Qasimi. There is also a letter from Colonel Hugh Oldman of the Department of Defence, Muscat, dated 20 September 1970, informing Shebbeare of the dissolution of the Interim Advisory Council of which he was a member.
